PURPOSE OF NOTICE: To seek public comment and announce a public hearing on a draft permit from the Department of Environmental Quality regarding a landfill in Dry Fork, Virginia. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: August 12, 2026, to October 7, 2026 PUBLIC HEARING: Chatham Community Center in Chatham, VA on September 22,2026 at 7:00 p.m. PERMIT/FACILITY NAME, LOCATION AND PERMIT NUMBER: Pittsylvania County Sanitary Landfill, 382 Rainbow Lane, Dry Fork, VA 24549, SWP571 PERMIT APPLICANT: Pittsylvania County PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pittsylvania County has applied for a modification to a permit that allows the Pittsylvania County Sanitary Landfill to operate an existing landfill in Dry Fork, Virginia. This modification to the permit would allow an increase to the waste disposal capacity and adds a new landfill unit to the facility. HOW TO COMMENT: DEQ accepts comments by hand-delivery, e-mail, or postal mail. All comments must include the name, address and telephone number of the person commenting and be received by DEQ within the comment period. DEQ also accepts written and oral comments at public hearings.
