TMDL Advisory Committee (TAC) Meeting - Watershed Cleanup Study for Sand Branch in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties
Apr 25, 2024 10:00 AM
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the seventh TMDL Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting for the Sand Branch Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Study on Thursday April 25, 2024. The TAC meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. Meeting participants will assist in development of a cleanup study, also known as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), to address benthic impairments of Sand Branch in Fairfax and Loudoun counties which has been listed on Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to poor health in the benthic biological communities. TMDLs will be developed for sediment, and total dissolved solids, which were identified as probable contributors to the poor health of the stream segment. The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and its contractors, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., will discuss and solicit feedback on the on-going development of TMDLs, preliminary waste load allocation scenarios, and proposed project timeline. Information about this study can be found here: https://www.deq.virginia.gov/water/water-quality/tmdl-development/tmdls-under-development. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be rescheduled.
